Become a Biodiversity Detective!
Did you know? All over the world, citizen scientists are helping to discover new species! School students are also making important contributions by uncovering biodiversity and protecting the environment around them.
Do you want to be part of this movement? Join the BioBlitz Challenge to discover the species living around your school and learn why they matter for healthy ecosystems.
🌿 Explore local plants and animals
🌿 Upload your photos and sounds to iNaturalist
🌿 Win biodiversity prizes: binoculars or biodiversity books
🌿 A scientist can visit your school to help identify species in your local area
📅 The Great Southern BioBlitz runs from 24–27 October, but we can visit your school on flexible dates throughout October. Even if you can’t join during the main event, your students can still take part in a school BioBlitz, build the skills to contribute later, and make valuable iNaturalist observations. Every contribution counts toward citizen science, helping us understand local environments, monitor species, and even make new scientific discoveries.
🌱 We can also create a dedicated iNaturalist project for your school, so you can continue monitoring biodiversity year after year—just like the project we created for the University of Sydney.
